Tattoo FAQs

How do I book an appointment?

To book an appointment, please view our artist portfolios, and contact your desired artist directly through the email form. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible, however, response times may vary. You can also visit your desired artist’s Instagram page, and contact them via direct message.

How much will it cost?

Our shop minimum is $80. This covers the cost of supplies, no matter how simple the tattoo is. For larger projects, hourly rates start at $150 and will vary between artists. For a more specific estimate, contact your chosen artist and book a free consultation.

What is the cancellation policy?

We appreciate as much notice about cancelled appointments as possible. Our artists are flexible and easy to work with, so reach out if you need to change your appointment. Speak with your specific artist about their policies.

How should I prepare for my upcoming appointment?

Please do not drink alcohol before your appointment, and make sure you eat and drink water beforehand. Do not apply lotions to your skin before your appointment — clean, dry skin is preferred.

I have an idea for a big tattoo — how do I get started?

For a large, custom-designed tattoo, you'll need to set up a consultation and pay a deposit to see the finished art. A typical consultation session is free and lasts 30-60 minutes. It can be done in person or over the phone. This allows you to tell your artist about your idea, budget, style, ideal size, and body placement. They will trace the area of your tattoo and take down any other necessary information. To go forward with the design, your artist will require a non-refundable deposit of at least $50 that will be deducted from the cost of your last session.

Can I bring a friend or family member to my appointment?

To respect the space and privacy of other artists and clients, we ask that you come alone to your appointment. Exceptions will be made for those who require a guardian or personal assistance, so please just ask your artist. We are friendly and understanding, we promise! This rule may become more strict depending on our most current COVID-19 protocols.

How old do I have to be to get tattooed in Toronto?

You must be 18 years of age with a valid, government-issued photo ID to get a tattoo. Some exceptions may be made for customers as young as 16 years of age with signed parental consent.

Do you still offer piercings?

Unfortunately, we no longer offer piercing services at YST. Be sure to ask your artist and they can direct you to a reputable piercing shop that will meet your needs.

How long will my tattoo last?

The longevity of your tattoo often depends on your aftercare routine, using sunscreen regularly, and where on the body you get your tattoo. In general, they last forever — but some bleeding and fading after many years are to be expected.
